For those among us that love a bit of catharsis, a new opportunity to collectively sob for a few hours is nearly upon you.

Today's great news in the world of theatre is that The Notebook is being turned into a musical for Broadway.

Announced today by author Nicholas Sparks, we now know that playwright and This Is Us producer Bekah Brunstetter is penning the adaptation.

Sparks' 1996 book was made into a movie in 2004 and starred Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling as lead characters Noah Calhoun and Allie Hamilton.

Although Gosling's portrayal of cheeky and, as it turns out, passionately, heartbreakingly loyal Noah Calhoun brought so many to tears, we've not got any information yet about who will replace the actor on the stage.

The force of the love story in the The Notebook was so strong, that Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling even became real life boyfriend and girlfriend after it was filmed, with a relationship that spanned between 2005-2008.

Although there is a bit more information to be had about who is co-producing the show with Sparks and who is leading the musical score, we've yet to find out any information about the musical's run and whether it will make it's way across the pond to London's West End.

We can all hope it will.
