Netflix's new Ryan Murphy extravaganza, Ratched, tells the origin story of the infamous nurse from One Flew Over the Cuckoo's nest. And throughout the eight episodes of the first season, the show takes many twists and turns. But if you've already binged the entire thing (same) you're probably dying at that cliffhanger, and wondering just how long you'll have to wait for more episodes. You're not alone! Here's everything we know about season 2 of Ratched.
It's for sure happening.
Yeah! Good news first! When the show was originally ordered by Netflix, the streamer ordered two seasons, so we know for a fact that we will eventually get more episodes of Ratched. Each season will be nine episodes.
But the timeline is very, very unclear.
Here's where things get tricky. The first season obviously just dropped, and we're currently in the middle of a pandemic that is preventing most of Hollywood from producing and new content. There's also the slight problem that Ryan Murphy, the producer of the series, has a million projects going on right now. Like, so many. And that could also make scheduling tricky.
"Nobody knows anything about season two because Ryan [Murphy], with the number of things he has going on, who’s to know when when that’s all going to begin, and you throw in the pandemic and then we think well who knows," series lead Sarah Paulson said in a video press conference for the show.
She said she hopes the inevitable wait will up the anticipation factor for the next season. "I like to think about it like ‘The Crown,’ just because I’m a desperate fan of ‘The Crown’ and the amount of time I have to wait for another season always makes me so f—ing crazy. But then when it comes I’m just like a raved nut just sitting there and I devour it," Sarah told The Wrap. "So I like to put us into that timeframe in my mind that if people consume it the way I hope they do, they will anxiously be waiting for the next installment when it does come. And it’ll make it that much sweeter.”
Okay, what about the plot?
[Spoilers ahead!!] Well, the first season ended on a major cliffhanger, with Edmund and his cohort on their way to Mexico to potentially spoil Mildred's fun (or, IDK, kill her). He thinks she betrayed him. So I'm sure addressing that will be priority number one for the next season.
