CHICAGO — The smash hit Goodman Theatre production of “Good Night, Oscar” is headed to Broadway in the spring with most of its original Chicago cast — including its acclaimed star, Sean Hayes, likely to be a formidable contender in the upcoming awards season.

Doug Wright’s play with music, an exploration of the pianist, actor and raconteur Oscar Levant, is slated to begin performances at the Belasco Theatre on Broadway on April 7, 2023, with an opening night of April 24. The show is being billed as a limited engagement through Aug. 27, although so short a run would appear likely to be extended, Hayes’ schedule permitting.

A move to Broadway for director Lisa Peterson’s production was widely anticipated. “Good Night, Oscar” explored the caustic Levant’s complexity and also showcased his sharp and subversive wit as famously seen on the Jack Parr show. The producers, long attached to the project, are Grove Entertainment (Beth Williams, Mindy Rich), Barbara Whitman, Hazy Mills Productions, Yonge Street Theatricals and Frank Marshall.
