Good Omens creator Neil Gaiman has revealed the show has recast two stars from the first season for season 2.

Fans will remember that Maggie Service played the role of Sister Theresa Garrulous and Nina Sosanya portrayed Sister Mary Loquacious, though Gaiman explained in a Tumblr post that he was desperate to have them back second time around.

Asked by a fan if the two stars were brought back just because of how loveable they are, the writer replied: "We're on the same timeline. (Somewhere Mary Hodges is out running management conferences and Sister Theresa Garrulous is still dead.).

"I cast them because I wanted them in the show again, and I couldn't think of anyone I wanted in those roles except for them. There's a Good Omens family and Maggie and Nina are part of it. (Which is also why Miranda Richardson and Reese Shearsmith returned in new roles.)".

The two will play characters who share their names - Maggie, who runs a record shop, and Nina, who runs a coffee shop, both next door to Aziraphale's bookshop.

Season 2 of Good Omens will of course see the returns of David Tennant's demon Crowley and Michael Sheen's angel Aziraphale, with a number of new cast additions previously announced.

They include Tennant's son Ty as Ennon and father-in-law Peter Davison as Alistair, while Dune's Siân Phillips, Outlander's Tim Downie, I May Destroy You's Andi Osho and Pirates of the Caribbean's Alex Norton also join.

Last month, Gaiman teased Tennant's "stunned" reaction to season 2, revealing on Tumblr: "They've both [Tennant and Sheen] been sent it. I know David has seen it because he left me a stunned video message about how he only planned to watch the first episode and watched the whole thing and how wonderful it was.

"Michael has been directing his first TV series, and I don't think he's had a spare 5 hours to watch anything yet, although I know he wants to," he added, further teasing that Jon Hamm had seen and "loved" the season.

Good Omens season 1 is streaming now on Prime Video, where season 2 will premiere on July 28.
