Good Omens season 2 spoilers follow.

Michael Sheen has shared his hopes that Good Omens will return for a third season after that eventful season 2 climax.

In the bittersweet final episode of the season, Sheen's angel Aziraphale and David Tennant's 'retired demon' Crowley finally addressed their feelings for each other. They eventually kissed before seemingly going their separate ways.

On learning Derek Jacobi's Metatron had offered Aziraphale the chance to return to heaven as the new Supreme Archangel, Crowley (who himself had turned down the chance to return to hell) declined to follow him.

Asked by Metro about the likeliness of Good Omens season 3, Sheen pointed out: "That's in the hands of the audience. If people watch it and like it, then there'll be a season 3 – it's as simple as that.

"We all hope that that will be the case, but we'll have to wait and see and just hope that people really enjoy and appreciate what we've done in season 2."

This was backed up by the fantasy show's production designer Michael Ralph.

"It's all about the details," he said. "It's all about the care. It's all about that extra bit, and I believe that there's so much love and detail put into the show and depth and inspiration that it's a real place.

"I think that that will work again and I believe everybody that worked on it wants to do it all over again. I know I definitely do. I don't believe it's finished."

Good Omens creator Neil Gaiman has long teased the prospect of a third season of the show.

When asked last year if the second season would include material which he and the late Terry Pratchett had considered including in a sequel to the original Good Omens book, he said: "That would be a hypothetical Season 3."

Gaiman recently wrote on Twitter (now X) that he has season 3 "planned and plotted", but hasn't yet started work on it due to the writers' strike.

He urged people who are keen to see a third season to watch season 2, encourage others "who know nothing of Good Omens" to watch the show, and "encourage the studios to negotiate with WGA".

Good Omens seasons 1 and 2 are streaming now on Prime Video.
