One of two good Samaritans who were critically injured after being struck after stopping to help at a crash scene Saturday night has died, police said.

Steven Reid, 50, from Auburn Hills, stopped on the left shoulder of Interstate 96 at US-23 to help 75-year-old James Durante from Redford after his vehicle struck the median wall and was stuck in the travel lane Saturday night, according to the Livingston County Sheriff's Office. He was originally identified by police as a 52-year-old Howell resident.

Amanda Strong from Oak Park stopped on Interstate 96 near the U.S. 23 interchange to check her car after she struck an object in the road. While out of their vehicles, she and Reid were struck by a 2012 Chevrolet Malibu driven by a 27-year-old Warren man.

Reid was transported to area Providence Hospital for treatment of critical injuries. He died Monday, police said.

A GoFundMe has been started to raise money to support Reid's son, Bryson for expenses including a college education. It had raised more than 10,000 by Thursday.

Strong was transported to the University of Michigan Hospital where she remains in critical condition.

Durante was taked to Providence Hospital and is still in the hospital in stable condition.

Deputies say alcohol does not appear to be an issue in the crash, though weather and speed were contributing factors. Police did not say whether any citations were issued.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Michigan State Police, Green Oak Township Police, Brighton Police, Livingston County EMS and Brighton Area Fire.

This incident remains under investigation by the Livingston County Major Crash Team.
