A Good Samaritan helped safely evacuate four people onboard a vessel that caught fire Sunday afternoon on Pensacola Bay.

The vessel caught fire at about 1:51 p.m., according to U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Gabriel Wisdom. He could not confirm what kind of vessel it was.

Wisdom said a Good Samaritan called the Coast Guard to report the fire.

State units and Coast Guard units from Station Pensacola arrived at the scene, but by that point, the Good Samaritan had taken all four people onto their own vessel.

The Coast Guard was able to oversee a safe transfer between the two vessels, according to Wisdom.

He said the vessel that caught fire was unrecoverable.

The people onboard were not injured.

Bystander video posted on social media shows a thick plume of smoke from the fire blanketing the water Sunday afternoon as the vessel burned.
