Need a good scare? These haunted attractions will provide thrills and chills on Oct. 13

Amarillo offers some local thrills and chills this Friday the 13th as some prepare to enjoy a "second" Halloween this month. This list includes local haunts, mazes and more, sure to give anyone a good fright this Friday.

Starting off the list is a roundup of all the local haunted houses sure to entice a few laughs and screams out of every attendee.

Amarillo Scaregrounds, Amarillo's longest running haunted attraction, literally, offers a scary good time for all attendees this Friday including crowd favorites such as their four haunts, escape rooms and more.

"Friday the 13th is a spooky day, and we invite out anyone ready to have a good time. ... We are excited to see everyone come back each year and have made a few changes to keep up the fun," said Scaregrounds manager Joey Adams.

This location includes 50,000 square feet of dark, scary, disorienting haunts that are sure to fulfill anyone's frightening dreams. On the property includes their haunts spanning over a variety of themes, including the Insanitarium, a mental hospital overrun with zombies; Terror, focusing on different phobias; B-Trail, a unmanned walk created to disorient; and The Basement, relighting that fear of dark corners and jump scares.

Following the main attraction, attendees can catch a breath and enjoy the snack bar with various attractions including the Xcape Room Village.

Amarillo Scaregrounds is located at 2736 SW 10th, open every Friday and Saturday in October at 7 p.m. Attendees can purchase a Pepsi pass including access to the four haunts and an Xcape Room for $45, or the VooDew pass for $40 to enjoy the four main haunts.

During 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., attendees who use the code word "Happy Hour" when purchasing tickets can receive a $10 off coupon at the door.

This haunted attraction located at 3015 SW 6th Ave. is open every Friday and Saturday from 7 p.m. to midnight. For those curious about what is inside this terrifying haunt, you will have to take a look for yourselves this Friday.

The Haunt at Sundown

This haunt is sure to offer a scary good time located at 2101 W. Sundown Ln., open each Friday and Saturday from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Oct. 27-31 Halloween weekend.

This haunt, although still relatively new, is quickly becoming a crowd favorite for its unique funds, costumes and more. With the attraction located on a six-acre lot, owner Tony DeAlessio said he is excited to see it grow over the next couple of years as they expand with the crowds.

"Friday the 13th is a day that is creepy no matter the month but especially in October, so what better time to come and get a good fright then this Friday," DeAlessio said.

According to the owner, the haunt took eight years to create, and it is still growing and evolving. For those that attended last year and remember the graveyard scene including a man with a chainsaw, that now includes a never-before-seen haunt.

In addition to all the fun and frights offered, the Haunt at Sundown also offers a 50" smart TV giveaway drawing to one lucky winner who will be announced at the end of the season.

"Each of the local haunts are a work of art and something they created in their own image, so wherever people choose to go, it will be a good time," DeAlessio said.

Admission to enter the haunt is $20 per person. Tickets can be purchased at the gate. The haunt does not have an age limit, but warns of frightening imagery, and noises.

The Blackness

If your looking for a frightening ride, head on over to Plainview for The Blackness. This location includes multiple attractions and is open from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. at 501 E 6th St.

This attraction includes two haunted houses, including the "Immortal Evil Haunted House", a maze and a room full of oddities.

If the anticipation of the haunts or the haunts themselves don't frighten you, that drive back to town just might.

Admission to the haunts is $10 each, $5 for the Blacker Maze and $5 to experience the oddities. A combo pass to enjoy all the attractions is $20. Tickets are sold at the door.

For those wishing to walk on the safer side this Friday the 13th, they also have the perfect corn mazes for visitors.

Leonard Farms

Leonard Farms Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch, located at 17670 FM 1062 in Canyon, offers plenty of family friendly activities open this Friday from 9 p.m. to midnight.

The farm includes 20 acres of corn maze fun including five different mazes of different difficulty from beginners to "maze experts." Attendees can also enjoy the property on their Hay ride, or pick the perfect crop from their pumpkin patch or sunflower field.

For those who dare, there is also their haunted maze, and to wind down from all the fun, the farm encourages attendees to participate in their games.

Tunnel of Terror at Tommy’s Express Car Wash

More than one hundred Tommy’s Express locations across the country are hosting a spooktacular event in October. For the cost of a single wash, your car will be clean, shiny, and dry while you make your way through the Tunnel of Terror. The car wash tunnel will transform into a Haunted Wash, full of ghosts and ghouls.

At the Amarillo location at 6010 Lowes Lane, the tunnel will be open Oct 13-14, 20-21 and 27-28 from 7 to 11 p.m. Cost is $25.

Participating locations will give residents something to scream about, as masked employees hide in the dark corners of the wash that will be illuminated in strobe lighting and special effects.
