Good Trouble Vigils for Democracy are set for Saturday

Jul. 17—RED SPRINGS — Community members here are hosting a Good Trouble Candlelight Vigil for Democracy on Saturday starting at 8 p.m.

The Red Springs vigil will at 209 W. Fourth Ave. The Red Springs vigil will be one of more than 100 other vigils planned across the United States on the one-year anniversary of the passing of Rep. John Lewis. The vigils are planned as a celebration of Lewis' legacy and as a call on Congress to pass critical legislation to protect the freedom to vote, end gerrymandering, and get money out of politics to realize Rep. Lewis' vision for a democracy that works for all of us.

Vigil participants are demanding Congress pass a suite of democracy reform bills, including the For the People Act (S1), the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, and DC Statehood.

This Red Springs event is being hosted by community members in partnership with the Declaration for American Democracy, Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, and Transformative Justice Coalition as part of the Good Trouble Vigils for Democracy.
