Say goodbye to Langosta Lounge, return to the '90s and more things to do at the Shore

Goodbyes are never easy ... but a massive party commemorating all the good times helps.

It's time to say goodbye to the Langosta Lounge, Asbury Park Yacht Club and Pop's Garage with a weekend full of festivities, including live music and a "greatest hits" menu featuring customer favorites from the last 14 years.

The party kicks off Thursday, featuring artists like Dark City Strings and DJ Foggy Notion, and ends on Saturday.

Festivities will take place at the Lounge from 3 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, and noon to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday (with bar service open until 2 a.m.).

At the Club, visitors can party from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Friday, and noon to 2 a.m. on Saturday.

Party like it’s the ’90s at the Jersey Shore

You have two chances for a throwback throwdown this weekend.

ManaFirkin Brewing Company in the Manahawkin section of Stafford is hosting a ’90s party starting at 6 p.m. Friday, with the fun going until 10 p.m. at the brewery’s East Bay Avenue tasting room.

The good times continue with the return of the ’90s by Nature Dance Party at 9 p.m. Saturday at House of Independents on Cookman Avenue in Asbury Park.

Panama Dead at the Lizzie Rose Music Room

The spirit of the New Riders of the Purple Sage lives on in Ocean County this weekend.

The pioneering country/rock ensemble is celebrated with the legacy act Panama Dead, featuring former New Riders bassist Ronnie Penque, a Bergen County native who lives in Barnegat.

"What Panama Dead is doing is it's trying to go after that classic early-'70s sound when (New Riders) first came out, when they ... (were) that young powerhouse," Penque explained to the Asbury Park Press in 2019.

Black History Month films at the Basie Center and ShowRoom Cinemas

Local movie theaters are commemorating Black History Month with a series of special archival film screenings throughout February.

The Basie Center Cinemas on White Street in Red Bank will host a series of film screenings this month, starting with Denzel Washington’s 2021 film “A Journal for Jordan” starring Newark native Michael B. Jordan at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, and Spike Lee’s landmark 1989 drama “Do The Right Thing at 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

Upcoming screenings include “The Express: The Ernie Davis Story” on Feb. 12, “Dear White People” and “The Wiz” on Feb. 19, and “Green Book” on Feb. 26. Patrons can reserve free tickets via basiecentercinemas.org or noon on Wednesdays, Saturdays or Sundays at the Basie Center Cinemas box office.

The ShowRoom Cinema on Cookman Avenue in Asbury Park will screen Steven Spielberg’s Oscar-nominated epic “The Color Purple” at 7 p.m. Thursday. The film was a selection by Asbury Park city council member Yvonne Clayton, who will introduce the screening.

'Living and Breathing' at the Two River Theater

“Living and Breathing,” a new play by Mando Alvarado, is receiving its world premiere at Two River Theater in Red Bank.

The play, which was read as part of the 2019 Two River Theater Crossing Borders festival, looks at the impact a living Latino man, paid to act like a human statue, had on a group of friends.

Directed by Rebecca Martinez, “Living and Breathing” runs through Feb. 26.

'Clyde’s' comes to the George Street Playhouse

“Clyde's,” the Tony-nominated play from two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage, has arrived at the George Street Playhouse in New Brunswick.

A comedy about the kitchen staff at a truck stop sandwich shop, the Melissa Maxwell-directed production of “Clyde’s” runs through Feb. 19.

'Cat Daddies' and 'Free Puppies!' in Asbury Park

The movies are going to the cats and dogs this month in Asbury Park.

The ShowRoom Cinema hosts a pair of charity documentary screenings this month. “Cat Daddies,” a celebration of men whose lives have been changed by their love of cats, will screen at 7:30 p.m. Friday, with a portion of the proceeds supporting Catsbury Park’s cat rescue work.

“Free Puppies!,” which looks at dog rescue work in the American South, will screen at 7:30 p.m. next Friday, Feb. 10, with a portion of proceeds supporting the Brooklyn-based Pug Squad.

Tickets for both screenings are on sale now, and whichever organization’s screening draws the larger audience will earn an additional $25 donation from the ShowRoom.
