The traditional sale of Goodfellow newspapers to raise money for food and holiday cheer will be held this weekend.

Organizers Matthew Hehl and Jay Jondro said the Goodfellow paper will be sold for any amount during the annual Monroe sale Friday and Saturday. They will be sold by members of the Monroe Exchange Club and Monroe Council 1266, Knights of Columbus. Sales will kick off Friday at some stores.

Both clubs will then sell papers on Monroe street corners on Saturday. Lamour Printing printed this year's paper, which includes a drawing of a newsboy hawking a paper with the headline “Over a century of helping the needy of Monroe County.”

Hehl is heading up the charity drive for the Exchange Club, while Jondro is doing the same for the Knights. Volunteers from both clubs will bundled up and stand outside in the cold wearing red newsbags around their necks to collect donations. The bulk of the sale will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at street corners and shopping areas in downtown Monroe and in Frenchtown and Monroe Townships.

The tri-folded paper will have information about the drive and photos put together by Bill McCloskey and Jondro, including one photo of Exchange members from 1933. Proceeds from the sale will be used by both organizations to bring some food and holiday cheer for Christmas and to assist needy families throughout the coming year.
