#GoodNews: To Save 150-Yr-Old Tree, Family Builds House Around It

A couple from Madhya Pradesh rebuilt their house around a 150-year-old tree, when they decided to expand their family home in Madhya Pradesh's Jabalpur, instead of getting rid of the giant fig (peepal) tree, AFP reported.

The tree, according to the report, is now the central feature of the Kesharwani house. "We are nature lovers and my father insisted that we keep the tree," Yogesh Kesharwani was quoted by the news agency as saying. Yogesh's parents built the house in 1994.

Keshwarani said that it is easy to cut the tree but really difficult to grow one like this.

The family, according to the report, said that they wanted to send out a message that people can very well live without destroying anything.

"When the house was first built, engineering students used to come here to try and understand the unique design," Kesharwani was quoted by AFP as saying.

Keshawarani further said that the tree doesn’t give them practical problems, it just “stands there silently.”
