Goodwill opens its first outlet store in Marion - here's how it works

Marion Goodwill Industries opens its first outlet store with donated items getting yet another chance to support Goodwill’s mission “Building Lives That Work,” said Goodwill in a news release.

Located at the Marion corporate headquarters, the outlet store will provide shoppers an opportunity to purchase merchandise by the pound at greatly reduced prices. Items are $1.89 per pound and books are 59 cents per pound. Large items and furniture are priced as marked.

“The concept for the new Goodwill Outlet Store is to offer items which haven’t sold in Goodwill stores, to the many shoppers who still recognize their value,” said Goodwill.

Jobs for those with disabilities

In addition, Marion Goodwill Industries work hard for people with disabilities and other employment barriers to get jobs. The new Goodwill Outlet Store creates yet another opportunity for Goodwill donations to make that happen.

The new outlet store will also add to Goodwill’s recycling and salvage operation. For example, last year Marion Goodwill recycled more than 3,850,000 pounds of plastics, metals, cardboard and textiles.

Merchandise bins, including book bins, rotate every few hours, which means that bins are removed from the sales floor and replaced with a completely different selection of merchandise, so those who shop daily at the new Goodwill Outlet store have the opportunity for fresh finds several times throughout the day.

The new Goodwill Outlet store is located at 340 W. Fairground St. in Marion. Hours of operation: daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
