New Goodwill outlet, warehouse and donation site will create ‘hub’ in Rock Hill region

A Goodwill outlet store, warehouse and donation site will add jobs and deals to the Rock Hill market.

On Wednesday, Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont will break ground on a new store prototype in the Steele Creek area of Charlotte. It’s a 4835 Shopton Road, near the I-485 and N.C. 160 intersection. The company also announced groundbreaking this week for a new hub site in Rock Hill.

The 1179 Galleria Boulevard site near the Galleria Mall will have the second site for Second Editions: A Goodwill Outlet Store. Second Editions will have a 10,000-square-foot sales floor. Items that doesn’t sell at traditional Goodwill stores will be offered at half off ticketed price, or for some items by the pound.

The Rock Hill location will have a warehouse and a new donation location.

Rock Hill has a Goodwill site at 1926 Mt. Gallant Road. Fort Mill, Indian Land and Lancaster all have stores, and there are several in Steele Creek or other areas just across the North Carolina state line. There are 31 stores in the Charlotte region. The other Second Editions outlet is on Wilkinson Boulevard in Charlotte.

Goodwill projects the Rock Hill hub will add 40 new jobs and a $4.4 million annual impact.

Last year Goodwill opened six stores and relocated another in the region. The organization set a goal last year of 25 new stores within five years. The group added 180 jobs last year and projects 750 jobs within five years.
