Goodwill store opening in Woodbridge

A Goodwill Store & Donation Center is coming to Woodbridge.

The new Goodwill location will open in March at the Woodbridge Crossing Shopping Center in the Iselin section of the township.

The 9,800-square-foot site, with a 5,900-square-foot sales floor, is expected to be turned over to Goodwill NYNJ in about two weeks. It is replacing a Party City.

The Woodbridge store will be Goodwill's ninth location in northern New Jersey, with nearest stores in East Brunswick on Route 18 and Bound Brook on West Union Avenue.

Goodwill's mission is to empower individuals with disabilities and other barriers to employment to gain independence through the power of work.

Jose Medellin, Goodwill NYNJ director of communications, said Goodwill is in the middle of a retail expansion and launched the first Goodwill Mini Shop & Donation Drop in Hillsborough last September.

The Mini Shop and Donation Drop is a new small-format store that offers a selection of donated goods provided by local donors, including home décor, books, accessories, glassware and other knick-knacks.

Goodwill also plans to open a store and donation center on Route 46 in Ledgewood, Morris County in March.

According to Goodwill, revenue generated from its 28 retail locations and online sales supports human services for the Northern NJ and NY communities. The revenue from Goodwill stores funds job connection services for local residents with disabilities and other barriers, and behavioral health services that help persons with mental illness stay healthy, on their jobs and out of hospitals due to psychiatric crises.

In 2022, Goodwill NYNJ helped residents to repurposed more than 38 million pounds of usable clothing and home goods.

Last year Goodwill NYNJ provided training, placement, on-the-job coaching and retention services for nearly 9,000 people, half of them individuals with disabilities, outside its stores at hospitals and health care centers, tech and accounting firms, the warehousing and manufacturing sectors and government agencies.
