Goodwill Van To Collect Donations Outside Closed UWS Store

The "Curated by Goodwill" store on West 79th Street closed on Dec. 17, but residents can still drop clothes there on Saturdays.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — Upper West Siders who donated items at the Curated by Goodwill store on West 79th Street will still be able to make drop offs at the location despite the store's recent closure, a Goodwill spokesperson said.

Goodwill will park a truck outside the store's former location at 217 W. 79th St., between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue, every Saturday for the foreseeable future, a Goodwill spokesperson said. The van will be parked at the location between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., the spokesman said.

"We'll collect donations for the foreseeable future depending on how this works out. There was some concern from UWS residents about losing the Goodwill location to drop off donations," a Goodwill spokesman said in an emailed statement.

Saturday, Dec. 22 was the van's first day in action.

Curated by Goodwill closed on Dec. 17 in anticipation of its lease expiration at the end of the month. The store offered second-hand clothing items curated by a rotating list of featured stylists.

The concept didn't last long on the Upper West Side — the store opened in July — but Goodwill has expanded it to stores in Brooklyn and Paramus, New Jersey. The curated idea was designed by a team of four students at SUNY's Fashion Institute of Technology and is part of Goodwill's Vision 2020 strategic plan to create a shopping experience more in-line with current consumer trends.

The thrift store's West 72nd Street location will remain open.
