Google delays mandatory return to office indefinitely

Google says its postponing its return-to-office plan indefinitely, amid growing concerns over the Omicron coronavirus variant.

The company had said in August it would mandate its employees to turn up in the office a few days a week starting January 10.

But on Thursday, company executives told employees that the plan would be moved beyond that date.

The move also comes amid resistance to Google's company-mandated vaccinations.

CNBC reported last week that hundreds of employees protested the company's vaccination mandate for those working on government contracts.

According to the company, nearly 40% of U.S. employees have come into an office in recent weeks with higher percentages in other parts of the world.

Google was one of the first companies to ask its employees to work from home during the global health crisis.

It has about 85 offices across nearly 60 countries.
