Google Fiber is coming to Franklin. What’s the estimated timeline?

The Google Fiber network is coming to Franklin.

Franklin will join Nashville and Smyrna as the Tennessee cities where the massive technology company has a fiber presence.

Ryun Jackson, manager of Government & Community Affairs for Google Fiber, said the move into thriving Franklin simply makes sense.

“It’s really indicative of the growth of this city. And we wanted to be part of that growth,” Jackson said.

Mayor Ken Moore announced the news Wednesday morning at his annual state of the city address.

“Google Fiber’s reputation speaks for itself, and we are excited for Google Fiber to be part of our community,” Moore said.

Google Fiber expects to start construction early next year, with the goal of servicing Franklin customers in late 2024. Jackson said that estimated timeline was the “very earliest” for service, noting that construction delays are possible.

Google Fiber, which in 2014 announced its expansion to Nashville, has been expanding across the nation. Franklin became a focus for Google’s expansion due to the city's growth now more than 80,000 residents and reputation as one of the nation’s best places to live and work. Last year, more than $870 million in private construction investment took place in the city.

Google announced last August a major growth plan in five states: Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Nebraska and Nevada.
