Believe it or not, one of the easiest ways to cut down on your household expenses is by upgrading your thermostat whenever you leave the house. Not only does this save you hard-earned cash, it can reduce your impact on the environment, since you won’t be wasting energy heating or cooling an empty home. While you can certainly manually adjust your home’s thermostat whenever you leave the house, we’re big fans of the kind of smart technology that will do it for you. One of the best smart thermostats we've ever tested is the Google Nest thermostat—and currently, it's on sale at Amazon in honor of Earth Day 2021.

Through April 22, you can get it for $99.99 down from its normal retail price of $129. That’s the best price we've ever seen on this thermostat!

Available in three colors, the Nest is a more affordable version of its big sister, the Nest Learning thermostat ($218), a.k.a. our favorite smart thermostat of all time. Despite some key differences between the two models—namely, that the standard option only works with the Google Home app and can't learn your temperature preferences over time like the Learning one can—the standard pick is certainly not lacking in performance or features.

When we tested the regular Nest, we loved its energy-saving setting Eco Mode, Home/Away Assist and scheduling features, which mirror the more advanced Learning variation, to help you save on energy costs. Our smart home expert Rachel Murphy also noted that, with the Nest, in addition to setting your thermostat to a specific temperature for a set amount of time, you can also start preheating or cooling your home before you get there. This baby can even tell you how long it will take to heat up and when it's time to change your air filter!

Unlike the Nest Learning thermostat, which uses the Nest app to set schedules, temperature ranges and performances for your Nest, this one can be paired with the accompanying Google Home app. That may be a good thing, however, as we found Google Home to offer more data and analysis than the Nest app, such as full monthly usage versus just 10 days of energy use, allowing you to better fine-tune your thermostat settings.

One thing to keep in mind before you buy the Nest is that it's not compatible with Nest Temperature sensors. This is certainly something to consider if you have a larger home, where the placement of these sensors in specific rooms would help your thermostat to more accurately heat and cool your home. But, as Rachel mentioned in her in-depth review, if you have a smaller space, you should be just fine without the need for these extra sensors.

Thanks to this amazing deal, you can cash in on this $30 discount while also helping reduce your environmental impact—just in time for Earth Day.
