Whether you like baked chicken wings with a side of ranch or fried chicken wings covered in buffalo sauce, the popular finger food is a Super Bowl Sunday staple for many households nationwide.
A report from the National Chicken Council projects that Americans will consume 1.45 billion wings as they watch Kansas City and San Francisco compete for the Vince Lombardi trophy.
“Football is great. Wings are great. But they’re even better together,” Council spokesman Tom Super said in a statement. “Sure, you can have your chips, your guacamole, your pizza. But when it comes to menus, wings rule the roost.”
Google Trends data shows that inquiries for chicken wings recipes spiked, especially in California, ahead of the Big Game. Google mapped out which recipes each state searched for the most.
In California, searches for dry rub salt and pepper chicken wing recipes took the top spot.
Other states like Texas, Nevada and Missouri searched for air-fried chicken wing recipes the most.
For Super Bowl parties with chicken wings on the menu, researchers found that “fresh chicken wing prices are down approximately 5%, and frozen wing prices are down 11% compared to January of 2023.”
Super Bowl LVIII is set to kick off in Las Vegas at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday. The game can be watched on CBS and Nickelodeon or streamed on Paramount+, CBS.com, or the CBS Sports app.
