Goose Island shifting first Bourbon County release to United Center drive-through event due to COVID-19

Da Bulls.

Da Blackhawks.

And ... Goose Island?

Like Chicago’s basketball and hockey teams, the city’s oldest brewery will call the United Center home, albeit temporarily, as COVID-19 forces Goose Island to release the first of its 2020 Bourbon County beers in a multi-day drive-through operation at the West Side arena.

Instead of the brewery’s usual in-person beer release called Proprietor’s Day, Goose Island will stage a tweaked version called Proprietor’s Days across weekends in November, during which beer drinkers will be able to pick up several of the brewery’s barrel-aged stouts without getting out of their vehicles.

Goose Island will stage a lottery from noon Tuesday until 12 a.m. Oct. 12. Winners, drawn at random, will be able to buy an allotment of four beers and a snifter for $130.

The allotment includes two bottles of Proprietor’s Bourbon County Stout (made with pistachios, cacao nibs, cherries and vanilla), one bottle of Bourbon County Stout Special #4 (made with coffee and maple syrup) and one bottle of a barrel-aged stout exclusive to the release (details will be announced the day of the event, but a spokeswoman said it will not be branded as a Bourbon County beer).

Goose Island will release the full lineup of seven Bourbon County beers Nov. 27, the day after Thanksgiving. Details of that release, which is usually a daylong in-person event, have yet to be announced.

Winners of the Proprietor’s Days lottery will be notified Oct. 14. The brewery will allow one lottery submission per person.

Pick up dates will be Nov. 7, 8, 14, 15, 21, 22, 28 and 29 at the United Center (1901 W. Madison St.).
