After the field of candidates running for United States Senate in Maryland swelled earlier this month hours before the filing deadline, the field has now contracted after a Republican withdrew his candidacy last week.
Retired U.S. Air Force Brig. Gen. John Teichert, who began his political career (and candidacy) last October, ended his U.S. Senate campaign officially on Feb. 20, according to the State Board of Elections website.
“As I crisscrossed Maryland, engaging in conversations with you, hearing your stories, and feeling the pulse of our communities, I have come to the conclusion that it is not yet my time,” said Teichert, in a Feb. 16 statement on his campaign website. Teichert’s announcement came days after former Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan announced his entry into the Republican field.

Teichert endorsed Hogan in his Feb. 16 statement and the former governor put out a statement of his own that day on his own website, calling Teichert a “true patriot” and a “devoted public servant.”
