Gophers add prolific Georgia prep quarterback to 2024 recruiting class

The Gophers football program received a commitment from prolific Georgia prep quarterback Aaron Philo on Thursday.

“I’m all in!!” Philo tweeted during a visit to the U this week. “Let’s roll!”

A three-star recruit, Philo led Prince Avenue Christian School in Bogart, Ga., to a Class A Division I state championship last fall. As a junior, he threw for 4,598 yards, 54 touchdowns, eight interceptions and was named the Atlanta Journal-Constitution offensive player of the year in that classification. As a sophomore, he threw for 4,540 yards and 47 touchdowns, with completion percentages at 70 percent or higher in both seasons.

Philo, who is listed at 6-foot-2 and 190 pounds, had a primary recruiter in Gophers’ new co-offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Greg Harbaugh. Philo was the U’s primary QB target, with a scholarship offer extended Jan. 31. Philo’s offer list included Georgia Tech, Central Florida and other Group of Five schools.

Philo’s high school offensive coordinator has been Jon Richt, the son of former Georgia Bulldogs coach Mark Richt.

Philo is the fourth pledge in the Gophers’ 2024 recruiting class, which added Kankakee, Ill., running back Jaydon Wright on Sunday.
