Gophers add Pennsylvania running back and Florida receiver for 2023 class
The Gophers football program has stacked consecutive successful recruiting weekends this June.
Marquese Williams, a running back from Harrisburg, Pa., committed on Saturday night and Donielle Hayes, a receiver from Pensacola, Fla., pledged Sunday. Both skill-position players in the 2023 class were in Minnesota on official visits to the U campus this weekend.
Minnesota also added a commitment in Mason Carrier, a 6-foot-2, 200-pound linebacker from Detroit Lakes, Minn. Carrier is the U’s first commit in the 2024 class and his older brother, Ethan, accepted a preferred walk-on spot in the 2023 class on Sunday.
Williams, who is listed at 5-foot-9 and 175 pounds, is considered a high three-star recruit. He named seven programs under consideration in late May, including Iowa, Penn State, Notre Dame, Virginia Tech, Louisville, Texas A&M and the U.
Hayes, who is nicknamed “Nuke” and is listed at 6 feet, 180 pounds, had offers primarily from Group of Five conference schools. Interested schools included Clemson, Washington State, Florida Atlantic and Southern Miss.
