Gophers gain Illinois running back in 2023 recruiting class

The Gophers football program picked up a commitment Sunday night from Illinois prep running back Jaydon Wright.

Wright, a three-star prospect from Bishop McNamara in Kankakee, Ill., had reported offers from Syracuse, West Virginia and roughly 10 other smaller schools.

In his tweeted pledge, Wright thanked head coach P.J. Fleck, offensive line coach and Illinois recruiter Brian Callahan and new running back coach Nic McKissic-Luke. Wright, who also plays basketball, previously said he had a “phenomenal” visit at the U in January.

Last season, the 5-foot-10, 220-pound rusher had a 447-yard and eight-touchdown game, andt he hanked his coaches and offensive line for the school-record performance.

Wright is the third commit in the U’s 2024 recruiting class.
