Gophers men’s basketball team nets Top-100 recruit Kadyn Betts
The Gophers men’s basketball program received its first commitment of the 2023 recruiting class Friday: Kadyn Betts, a 6-foot-8 forward from Pueblo, Colo.
Betts, who was offered by Minnesota on an official visit May 9, is considered a four-star prospect with a national top-100 grade for next year’s class, per Prep Hoops. Nebraska was his other scholarship offer from a high-major conference; he had others from Colorado State, Akron, Wyoming and Northern Colorado, plus interest from Iowa State, Colorado and Butler.
Last season, Betts led Pueblo Central High School to the Class 4A state tournament semifinals while averaging 22.7 points and 12.3 rebounds per game.
Betts said in June he will transfer to Huntington (W.V.) Prep for his senior season. Famous Huntington alums include Miles Bridges and former Timberwolves Andrew Wiggins and Gorgui Dieng.
BRIEFLY
Minnesota will play DePaul in the Gavitt Tipoff Games between Big Ten and Big East schools on Nov. 14 at Williams Arena, the U said Friday.
