Gophers’ Taylor Heise is repeat WCHA forward of the year

Fifth-year senior Taylor Heise has been named WCHA Forward of the Year for the second consecutive season. The center from Lake City, Minn., led the conference in points (62) and goals (29).

The reigning Patty Kazmaier Award winner and the MVP of last falls IIHF World Championships for Team USA, Heise was named to the All-WCHA for the second straight year and is the first Gopher since Hannah Brandt and Dani Cameranesi to record back-to-back 60-point seasons. She also led the conference in shorthanded goals (4) and hat tricks (2) and ranked third in power-play goals (7).

Heise is also a finalist for WCHA Player of the Year, which will be announced on Thursday.

The third-ranked Gophers (27-5-3) play No. 6 Wisconsin in the WCHA Final Faceoff semifinals on Friday. Puck drop is set for 5 p.m. at Ridder Arena.
