To the Editor:

Republicans have declared war on democracy. Voting rights are in the trash. They have passed laws where they can claim victory from defeat, literally by firing election officials and institute their own people. The GOP is maximizing gerrymandering by dividing up black districts, so they effectively have no representation. In Tennessee, though 40% of the voters are democratic, they'll have 10% of the representation. In Georgia, they're closing seven of eight polling places in black areas of Atlanta. The governor of Florida wants his own election police answering only to him. He wanted his own armed militia but didn't get that. And that's just the beginning.

Don't say, “oh, they won't do that.” Look at what they tried the last election. Fifty to 60 court cases challenging votes, which they lost all. Recounts and audits that showed no changes in the election, in about six states. Hiring a fake company to recount in Arizona (suddenly now bankrupt). Seven states sent false electoral ballots! Trump and others pressured election officials to make up votes in some areas they lost. Trump is still saying the election was stolen, and many GOP members will not publicly say that Biden won the election. When all that didn't work, Trump sent rioters to stop the electoral count in congress! People died, 140 Capitol police injured, and the GOP acts astounded that they're asked to help with the investigation. GOP congressmen are outspoken in defiance of the investigation.

OK, so what's going to happen? I wish I knew. All the election fraud claims by the GOP have been proven false, and the about six different ways to actually steal the election by the GOP failed. What happens if/when they succeed? This time, the oversight over elections worked. If a state changes the outcome of the next election, what will happen? We had an insurrection over a legitimate election. What are people to do over an illegitimate election? I've never seen such blatant corruption of elections. Will America devolve into oligarchy like Russia with minority rule? Will the people accept it? Will there be violence and riots? I've seen a lot of stuff in nearly seven decades, but I've never seen anything like this.

I'm not saying write or call your senators or representatives, because I know you won't. But America better wake up. Our last election might be our last legitimate election.
