Goshen Chamber hosts annual meeting event

Dec. 7—GOSHEN — The Goshen business community was well represented Thursday at Maple City Chapel.

For the 69th year, the Goshen Chamber of Commerce hosted its annual meeting, to which 480 business leaders throughout the city were invited.

"It's a celebration of the 2023 year, recognizing community leaders and their accomplishments," said Chamber President Nick Kieffer shortly before the event got underway at 11:30 a.m. "I think we have almost 100 business leaders here."

Kieffer gave opening remarks, which was followed by a buffet lunch. This was followed by a presentation of awards and recognition by Chamber Communications Specialist Vince Turner, and then by a 2023 Year in Review by outgoing Chamber Board President Kate Steury, of Shirley's Gourmet Popcorn.

A group of Goshen Community School broadcast students were also in attendance, who have worked on projects for the chamber.

"I like putting in the work and seeing some of the things I made coming to life for the students," said Goshen High School sophomore Zaki Ousman.

Steury was recognized for her service as board president with two awards, one plaque and one "popcorn," as she turned the gavel over to incoming Board President Ryan Kring, of Ancon Construction.

"This place has momentum," Kring noted about the Goshen business community as he accepted his new position.

Two people who were honored were not present. Bill Rieth, Crossroads United Way, was the winner of the Jerry Trolz Legacy Awards. At the time, Rieth was at his retirement party.

In addition, Kathy Sponseller, who served as longtime chamber officer manager and who passed away Nov. 10, was recognized for her service. A memorial fund for Sponseller as been established and donations can be made at the chamber at 232 S. Main St. or at any Interra Credit Union branch.
