Goshen Theater offers mental health and stage intimacy courses

GOSHEN — The Goshen Theater Education Department presents two upcoming classes at 216 S. Main St.:

Youth Mental Health First Aid Certification, 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. June 3: An early intervention public education program, the class teaches how to identify, understand, and respond to signs and symptoms of mental health challenges in children and adolescence ages 12 to 18. This certification is provided by the Elkhart County Health Department and through the support of NAMI: National Alliance on Mental Illness. The content of this workshop is very similar to an Adult Mental Health First Aid certification.

Must be 18 or older to register, and participants must complete a two-hour self-paced online course before June 3.

The course is limited to 24 people, and registration closes at 5 p.m. May 10.

Cost is $25; lunch will be provided.

Theatrical Intimacy Education: Best Practices Workshop, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 22: This workshop includes tools for developing a consent-based process in a performance and rehearsal setting, setting and respecting boundaries, desexualizing the theatrical/filming process, choreographing intimacy, and proper documentation practices.

This workshop is being instructed by

Lusie Cuskey, an associate faculty member with Theatrical Intimacy Education, teaches the workshop.

Must be 18 or older to participate. Registration closes at 5 p.m. July 12.

Registration is $100, and financial aid is available.

The Goshen Theater recommends that anyone who wants to participate in the Theatrical Intimacy Education workshop also participate in the Youth Mental Health First Aid certification course on June 3, but it is not required.
