The LSU women's basketball team has been flexing its influence beyond the court this season.

The roster boasts hip-hop recording artist Flau'jae Johnson and Angel Reese, who has more NIL deals than any other college basketball player, according to a SponsorUnited report.

So when platinum rapper Lil Wayne, a New Orleans native, recognized Reese with an emphatic tweet after the Tigers' Sweet 16 win over Utah, the culture crossover wasn't surprising. But when Lil Wayne connected with LSU's Elite Eight opponent, Miami, via Facetime call, Reese had feelings.

"I'm on him because he's from NOLA and he called them before he called us," Reese said during a press conference.

Lil Wayne addressed the exchange during his appearance on The Bird & Taurasi Show at LSU's Final Four game against Virginia Tech on Friday.

"I got in trouble from the Bayou Barbie," Lil Wayne said. "She let me know ... I got checked. Bayou Barbie checked me. It's all good."

Earlier in the show, host Sue Bird asked Lil Wayne who he'd pick between LSU and Miami. "LSU all day," Lil Wayne said. "It's not even a question."

Lil Wayne narrates the Tigers' Final Four hype video, and he's been known to wear women's basketball jerseys.

That kind of support and visibility, Reese realizes, can help push the game forward.

"Being able to grow women's basketball like that has just been amazing all year. If you've seen all the different kinds of celebrities and NBA players and people that have reached out to us and showed that they were supportive. I think Magic Johnson last night tweeted at me," she said. "Just being able to see that just makes me happy because I'm able to grow women's basketball. So Lil Tunechi, you better come pull up tomorrow."
