Have you tested positive for COVID-19? There’s now a free state-driven app for that.

The Minnesota Department of Health this week launched a new telehealth treatment program that offers COVID-19 clinical care and medication to patients at no cost. The goal of the pilot program is to reduce the risk of serious illness or hospitalization.

Participants who test positive for COVID-19 with a home test or a positive test from a lab can download the “Cue Health” app and sign up with their Minnesota address to have a virtual consultation with a licensed clinician.

The clinician will evaluate them to determine if therapeutic treatment is a good option, and can issue a prescription directly to the patient’s local pharmacy. In some parts of the state, the medications can be delivered to the person’s home. The pilot program is available at no cost to all Minnesota residents.

In a written statement, Minnesota Commissioner of Health Jan Malcolm called the Cue Health effort “another tool in Minnesota’s toolbox for limiting the negative impacts of COVID-19” and said that accessing therapeutics within five days of developing symptoms can greatly improve outcomes. “We are continuing to find new and innovative ways to reduce barriers to access for those therapeutics,” she said.
