Gotham Knights bosses have confirmed that the show will not be saved after it was announced it had been cancelled after just one season.

The show premiered in March this year on CW, and tells the story of Batman's adopted son Turner Hayes (Oscar Morgan) as he is framed for his father Bruce Wayne's murder.

In the wake of his father's death, he joins forces with the offspring of the city's other masked heroes to form an unlikely crime-fighting team to battle the dark forces of Gotham.

Despite attempts behind the scenes to find the DC series a new home, showrunners James Stoteraux and Chad Fiveash have revealed that the show will end after news of its sudden axing came ahead of the season one finale.

"Since many of you have been asking about the possibility of Gotham Knights finding a new home, we wanted to let you know that, over the last few months, our producing partners at Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Discovery had been working extremely hard to get the show picked up or possibly even moved to a new network," they wrote on social media.

"There is a great deal of love and support for GK at the studio, and at The CW as well. Unfortunately, despite all their efforts, The CW wasn’t able to renew the show, and the studio wasn’t able to find a new home for it."
