Gov. Brian extended an executive order to suspend the fuel tax in Georgia until July 14.

The original executive order suspended Georgia’s fuel tax until May 31, but Kemp extended the order to further help Georgians struggling with spiking fuel costs.

“The supply chain disruptions affecting the cost of motor fuel have not been fully alleviated since the signing of House Bill 304 and the high cost of fuel continues to negatively impact Georgia’s residents and economy,” Kemp said in the executive order.

According to AAA, the national average for a gallon of fuel is $4.59 and the state average in Georgia is $4.13. In Middle Georgia, gas prices range from $4.11 to $4.29.

As prices at the pump continue to rise, many residents are worried about gas reaching $5 a gallon or more.

“Prices later this week could be closer to $5 per gallon than $4, as demand continues to edge higher and inventories of both gasoline and diesel continue to decline, temperatures warm and motorists get back outside and we near the Memorial Day weekend, the start of the summer driving season,” Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy said last week.
