MARYBEL RODRIGUEZ: Happening now at noon, you're looking at live pictures from Port Miami, where Governor Ron DeSantis is making a South Florida stop and speaking about the cruise industry. Good afternoon, I'm Marybel Rodriguez.

FRANCES WANG: And I'm Frances Wang. The governor began speaking several minutes ago.

MARYBEL RODRIGUEZ: CBS 4's Joan Murray is live at the port with details on what he is saying. Joan?

JOAN MURRAY: Well, Marybel, Frances, it comes as little surprise since Governor Ron DeSantis has been threatening this for the past couple of weeks, that the state of Florida is now going to sue the CDC and the federal government over the no-sale order for the cruise ship industry. Well-known that Miami is, of course, cruise capital of the world. But there hasn't been any cruising for over a year with the pandemic.

At the podium now, several speakers who are talking about the impact that this shutdown, this no-sale order the CDC put in place, has had on people. They say tens of thousands of workers have been affected, not just people who work on the cruise ships, but people who work in the Port of Miami and Port Everglades and Port Canaveral. All these people have been affected by the inability to sail.

The CDC has been adamant about the ability for cruise ships to again get going. But they have not signed off on allowing the cruise industry to resume operations normally.

So just a few minutes ago, Attorney General Ashley Moody announced details of this lawsuit. We had various speakers here. A woman from the cruise industry spoke very eloquently just a few minutes ago, talking about the human impact this shutdown has had, that she says two people have died of heart attacks, that it was over heartbreak over the inability to go back to work.

So again, this is unfolding as we speak. Governor Ron DeSantis announcing that the state of Florida is suing the CDC, Centers for Disease Control, over the no-sale order and the federal government in the hope that something that can be done to push them to allow the cruise industry to resume operations. We'll have much more on this coming up beginning at 5:00. Reporting at the Port of Miami, Joan Murray, CBS 4 News.
