Gov. Eric Holcomb is supporting Anne Hathaway, a longtime Republican political consultant, to lead the state party, according to Indiana GOP spokesman Luke Thomas.

The news of Holcomb's support for Hathaway comes after Friday’s announcement that current Republican Party Chairman Kyle Hupfer is stepping down after leading the party for more than six years.

A caucus date to choose Hupfer’s successor has not been scheduled yet.

Hathaway, president and chief executive officer of Indianapolis-based Hathaway Strategies, would bring state and national political experience to the party chair role, including time as an aide to former vice president and Indiana Senator Dan Quayle, work at the U.S. Treasury and leadership roles with the Republican National Committee.

Recently, Hathaway was selected to lead the Republican National Convention’s Committee on Arrangements, which is in charge of running next year’s party convention in Milwaukee.
