Two candidates have already announced they will seek the seat. Arab native Stacy George, who finished third in the District 9 race and former Alabama Department of Early Childhood Education Secretary Jeana Ross of Guntersville, both said they are running.

Just over two weeks ago, Kitchens won the special Republican Primary for the Alabama Senate District 9 seat outright, defeating Alabama Rep. Brock Colvin and Stacy George.

That senate seat was left vacant when former House Majority Leader Clay Scofield resigned to take a job with the Business Council of Alabama.
