DAPHNE, Ala. (WKRG) — A Daphne company was one of several internet providers awarded with funding as part of an effort to expand broadband.

JMF Solutions, an internet company based out of Daphne, Alabama, was awarded with a $6.3 million grant through Gov. Kay Ivey’s initiative to expand broadband access. According to a Governor’s press release, the grant was part of a larger $188 million to several internet providers.

The funding provided through the grant will help providers install over 4,000 miles of broadband projects throughout Alabama. JMF’s portion of the funding will help them to oversee four of these broadband projects. In JMF’s press release, company officials say that the “key projects” they oversee will span over 1,169 miles and cover various counties.

According to Gov. Ivey, the installation of broadband infrastructure will make it more economical for internet providers to provide coverage to underserved communities.

In her State of the State Address, Gov. Kay Ivey said, “Just as our roads and bridges are critical to our success, our digital highways – or broadband connectivity – are equally vital. Ensuring our entire state has the ability to connect to high-speed internet is the most significant thing we can do to support a modern economy.”
