Candidates for the governor's race in South Dakota will debate Friday night in Rapid City. The debate is hosted by Dakota News Now and will be aired live on Fox, as well as KOTA and KEVN. The debate starts at 7 p.m. central time and 6 p.m. mountain time.

Gov. Kristi Noem is seeking re-election for what could be her second term, but faces Democratic challenger state Rep. Jamie Smith and Libertarian candidate Tracey Quint. It's the only debate that will feature all three candidates, and the only debate Noem has agreed to participate in.

Noem refused to join Smith for a second debate hosted by South Dakota Public Broadcasting set for late October.

With five weeks to go until Election Day on Nov. 8, candidates are heading into the final stretch of campaign season.

Noem announced Wednesday that if re-elected, she would seek to eliminate the state sales tax on food.

Smith, of Sioux Falls, has championed reducing the tax on groceries in the past, and said the announcement was politically motivated.
