  • South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem said the GOP "needs to evaluate what we are doing."

  • Noem hinted at replacing RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel, a staunch supporter of Trump.

  • Talks of replacing McDaniel were kicked up as Republicans tossed around blame over the midterms.

South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem said the GOP should consider replacing Republican National Committee Chair Ronna McDaniel after heavy midterm losses.

In an interview Sunday on Fox News' "Sunday Morning Futures," Noem was asked about the future of the GOP and whether or not McDaniel should be replaced.

"We need to win. That's just the fact. Our kids' future depends on it. We really have a responsibility to message what Republican policies bring to this country. And I don't know of a party that can continue to lose like we have and keep their jobs," Noem said, adding that "everybody needs to evaluate what we are doing and is it effective."

Noem, a GOP star and staunch supporter of former President Donald Trump, made the comments weeks after the Republican Party's disappointing performance in the midterm elections. The GOP managed to take back the House, though at a smaller margin than expected, but performed poorly in Senate races, even losing a seat, despite President Joe Biden's low approval ratings.

McDaniel, who has served as chair of the RNC since 2017, has also been an ardent supporter of Trump. Despite blame for the midterms being spread around the GOP, McDaniel indicated on November 14 she planned to run for another two-year term, Politico reported. A letter obtained by Fox News Digital suggested a majority of the committee, which is set to select its chair in January, supports McDaniel's re-election bid.

Still, others have suggested they may try to replace her. New York GOP Rep. Lee Zeldin, who lost his state's 2022 gubernatorial race despite backing from Trump, previously said he was considering going for the position.

Noem has also been floated for the position: She previously told Fox News others have encouraged her to challenge McDaniel, but has not confirmed if she plans to do so.

The RNC did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.
