Gov. Kristi Noem is urging both the United States Attorney General and multiple congressional committees to investigate the leaking of her family's personal information, including her personal cell phone number.

That phone number was hacked to make hoax calls, which she had no involvement in, according to the governor's office in a press release Monday.

The latest development follows news last week, when Noem's office urged the United States Attorney General to investigate why her and her family's social security numbers were leaked when the House Select Committee on the Jan. 6 Investigation released their findings.

Earlier this year, on Jan. 6, Noem's lawyers sent a letter to the White House, The National Archives and Records Administration, the U.S. Government Publishing Office and Rep. Bennie Thompson D-MS, the chair of the select committee and the White House general council. In that letter, lawyers said along with the governor, her husband, two daughters, son and son-in-law visited the White House where they recorded their social security numbers on visitor logs. The National Archives produced the visitor logs, which became exhibits during the Committee hearings.

Along with Noem, nearly 2,000 underacted social security numbers were released including Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster. In a letter, Noem's lawyers argue that the public dissemination of Noem and her family's social security numbers were a violation of The Privacy Act of 1974.

“This callous, unacceptable handling of our most sensitive information could have permanent, widespread damage to the lives of my kids and my grandkids, as well as the families of the many other individuals impacted,” Noem wrote in letters to AG Merrick Garland, the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability and the House Ethics Committee.

The South Dakota Fusion Center has also been notified of the latest cell phone breach, Monday's news release said. That center compiles, analyzes and disseminates criminal intelligence to support terrorism prevention and the investigation of criminal activity, according to the state's department of public safety.

“Callous mishandling of personal information has real world consequences,” said Noem in a release. “If you get such a phone call from my number, know that I had no involvement. I have urged both the United States Attorney General and multiple congressional committees to investigate the leaking of my family’s personal information, and I look forward to whatever resolution they can provide.”
