Gov. Mifflin grad Niko Hulsizer named Player of the Month of June in the High-A East League

Jul. 2—Gov. Mifflin grad Niko Hulsizer, an outfielder with the Bowling Green Hot Rods, has been named the Player of the Month for June in the High-A East League, Minor League Baseball announced Friday.

Hulsizer, 24, hit .325 with a league-leading 10 home runs, 30 RBIs, a .779 slugging percentage and a 1.220 OPS last month for the Tampa Bay Rays affiliate. He also was second in the league in runs (25) and on-base percentage (.441) and third in total bases (60).

He homered twice in a 13-11 win over Aberdeen on June 13 and homered in three straight games in one stretch.

Overall, Hulsizer went into Friday hitting .265 with 10 home runs, 35 RBIs, a .394 on-base percentage, .607 slugging percentage and 1.001 OPS in 34 games. He was third in the league in OPS, fourth in RBIs and slugging, tied for sixth in homers and was eighth in on-base percentage for the division-leading Hot Rods. He missed the season's first 11 games while on the injured list.

Hulsizer was an 18th-round pick of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2018 draft out of Morehead State. He was traded by the Dodgers to the Rays for reliever Adam Kolarek on July 31, 2019.
