Gov. Mifflin's Jayleah Pletz, Reading High's Esmeralda Tellez win titles at girls wrestling Central Regional Tournament

Mar. 6—Gov. Mifflin Jayleah Pletz and Reading High's Esmeralda Tellez won championships to head the list of 18 Berks place-winners at the girls high school wrestling Central Regional Tournament Sunday at Manheim Township.

Fourteen county wrestlers finished in the top six to qualify for the state championships, which will be held March 12 at Central Dauphin.

Pletz, a senior, won the 106-pound title with a pin of Hamburg's Isabelle Wilkes in 3:53 in the final. Tellez, a freshman, won the 190-pound title with a pin of Cumberland Valley's Nour Sharban in 5:59 in the final.

Finishing second from Berks were Wyomissing's Renie Harris at 112 and Hamburg's Shannon Govern at 118. Harris lost 14-1 to McCaskey's Journie Rodriguez in the final, while Govern fell 14-10 to Manheim Township's Isabella Baccio.

Schuylkill Valley's Kayley Weidner finished third at 130.

Finishing fourth were Gov. Mifflin's Jaylin Marion at 130, Tulpehocken's Katalyna Borreli at 142 and Brandywine Heights' Emma Lukenich at 235.

Placing fifth were Exeter's Molly Lubenow at 118, Gov. Mifflin's Emily Yerger at 130, Wyomissing's Olivia Tillman at 148, Exeter's Haley Piersol at 155 and Brandywine's Jaidyn Roush at 170.

Gov. Mifflin's Gabi Kapola finished seventh at 155. Eighth-place finishers were Brandywine's Ashley Nace at 124, Reading High's Kaly Gonzalez at 130 and Gov. Mifflin's Frankie Lisa at 235.
