Gov. Newsom opts out of giving State of the State speech, will go on a policy tour instead

California Gov. Gavin Newsom will not give a traditional State of the State speech this year, and instead will make a series of policy announcements during a statewide tour next week, his office said on Tuesday. The California constitution requires the governor to provide a State of the State Address to the Legislature. To fulfill that requirement, Newsom's office said he will send a formal letter to the Legislature once he finishes the tour and the announcements have been made.
