Gov. Ron DeSantis appoints 3, including Chairman Randy Howard, as Daytona State trustees

Gov. Ron DeSantis has named three people to the Daytona State College Board of Trustees.
Two were reappointments: Board Chair Randy Howard and member Garry Lubi. DeSantis also selected attorney Kelly Kwiatek for an opening in an announcement made late Friday.
The terms of Howard and Lubi had lapsed as of May 31. Florida gubernatorial appointees typically continue to serve until new appointments are made.

Kwiatek replaces Bob Davis whose last term expired on May 31, 2021.
As is the practice of gubernatorial appointments in Florida, Davis continued serving until a new appointment was made. He was first appointed to the board by then-Gov. Charlie Crist in 2010, and on Monday, said he is now off the board.
Howard is senior vice president and chief financial officer of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. After serving in the U.S. Air Force for 20 years, he was vice president for business affairs and treasurer of Ball State University in Indiana. Howard has a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and chemistry from Birmingham Southern College, his master’s degree in operations research from the Air Force Institute of Technology and his doctorate in finance from the University of Georgia.
Lubi, senior vice president of commercial banking at SouthState and CenterState Bank, serves on the Palm Coast Regional Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. He is a former senior vice president of commercial banking with Ameris Bank and as president of the Flagler County Education Foundation Board of Directors. Lubi earned his bachelor’s degree in business management from Canisius College.
In 2019, Kwiatek was named senior vice president and general counsel at Halifax Health. She serves on the Seventh Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission, as chair of the Daytona Regional Chamber of Commerce and as a member of the Halifax Area Civic League. Kwiatek earned her bachelor’s degree from Syracuse University and juris doctor from Florida State University.
The appointments are subject to a Florida Senate confirmation process.
