- And new details tonight. Gov. Ron DeSantis is calling for the Piney Point Reservoir to be permanently closed. He says he's asked the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to come up with a safe way to make that happen.

GOV. RON DESANTIS: I've requested that DEP's team of engineers and scientists, who obviously played an important role this response effort, develop plans for the permanent closure of this site, including identifying necessary resources to do so. This will ensure the state is moving forward with a thoughtful scientific plan toward closure to avoid another chapter in this long history.

- DeSantis says the state will redirect $15.4 million from existing appropriations at the DEP for technology to pre-treat water for nutrients and conduct rigorous water-quality monitoring. Environmental scientists plan to monitor the bay water for several months for any changes.
