Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) claimed that college students were supporting communism while speaking at an event at the Freedom Tower in Miami today.

DeSantis signed a bill that established November 7 as “Victims of Communism Day” and that requires all students to learn about communism.

He claimed that students idolized the communist leader of China Mao Zedong, sported Che Guevara t-shirts, and flew the hammer and sickle of the old Soviet Union flag.

“That to me speaks of a tremendous ignorance about what those individuals represented in the evils that communism inflicted on people throughout the world,” DeSantis said.

So under House Bill 395, beginning in the 2023-2024 school year, high school students across the state will receive at least 45 minutes of instructions on the “Victims of Communism Day” about the impact of communism on the millions of people across the globe.

According to the bill, students should be made aware of the suffering that communist leaders like Mao Zedong, Che Guevara, Fidel Castro, Joseph Stalin, and Vladimir Lenin inflicted upon the people.
