CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – The governor of North Carolina will be in Cabarrus County on Thursday. Roy Cooper will visit CC Griffin STEM Middle School in Concord.

His office says the governor will talk about the importance of public school education. Cooper has declared 2024 as the year of public schools.

“It is time for us, all of us, to stand up and demand our legislature stand up for public schools,” Cooper said earlier this week while signing the proclamation in the library at Nashville Elementary School, which he attended as a young student.

He is expected to visit the school around 10:45 a.m.

“We should invest more in access to pre-kindergarten, we should raise teacher pay, we should buy school supplies and help ensure that all students get the education that our constitution guarantees them,” Cooper said.
