PROVIDENCE — Gov. Dan McKee and his wife, Susan, are grandparents for the first time.

McKee confirmed Tuesday that his son, Matt, and daughter-in-law Laura had their first child on Monday. Her name is: Mabel James McKee.

"She was born 7 lbs. 13 oz. Mom and baby are doing great – dad is very excited,'' said McKee spokeswoman Andrea Palagi.

By way of background, the governor's office said: "James is Matt McKee’s middle name and the governor’s father‘s first name. " (The governor's office incorrectly reported earlier that James was the Governor’s middle name.)
