Governor Shapiro’s approval rating highest among recent predecessors, poll shows

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – A new poll shows Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro with the highest approval rating among his four most recent predecessors just over a year into his first term.
A recent poll by Franklin & Marshall College found 48% of voters believing Shapiro is doing an “excellent” or “good” job as Governor and 44% saying he’s doing either a “fair’ or “poor” job.

This Week in Pennsylvania
Shapiro’s approval rating is up 5% from April 2023 and flat from Franklin & Marshall’s October 2023 poll that found him at 49% approval.
Governor Tom Ridge is the only recent Governor to have an approval rating above 45% after the first 15 months of his term.
Shapiro’s approval rating is in line with a Quinnipiac University Poll that found him with a 59% approval rating. Three other polls have shown Shapiro with at least 51% support from voters.
The Franklin & Marshall College Poll also found Senator Bob Casey with a 35% approval rating with 45% disapproving and 20% unsure. Senator John Fetterman had a 31% approval rating with 58% disapproving and 10% unsure.
Pennsylvania bill would repeal Sunday hunting limits
President Joe Biden had a 32% approval rating with 67% disapproving of his job performance.
The poll also showed Biden virtually tied with Donald Trump in a head-to-head election with Biden leading 43% to 42%. In a race with third-party candidates Jill Stein and Robert Kennedy Jr., Biden led Trump 42% to 37%.
Nearly 60% of voters said Trump’s attempts to stay in office after the 2020 election were a “serious crime.”
The Franklin & Marshall College poll included responses from 1,006 registered Pennsylvania voters with a sampling error of +/- 3.6%.
